| 12/10/09 Away Music Events: Send $8-10 with your student for meals. Water is provided by the boosters. Arrive 30-45 min before step-off times you'd like to see to allow for parking & seating. Step off times are precise! Competitions: Bring the family and friends for an enjoyable day of musical fanfare with concession stands for delicious food. Plan a flexible day and evening since departure and return times may change or vary. Times will be announced in class and posted here when Mr. Henthorn has definite times a couple of days before the event. Maps and directions will be posted then. The regiment often stays for award ceremonies which can be a few hours later. The students enjoy the other bands and have fun! Supervision: Students are well supervised and kept in a group with the instructors and parent chaperones at all times. Parents may pick up their students after performances with advance permission from Mr. Henthorn. Students who leave the group must let Mr. H or the drum major see who they leave with when they go. No one is left behind or alone! Cell Phones: Are allowed but will not be accessible except on the bus and after Sailors have performed. Students are responsible for their own items. Be sure your student has a solid meal and fluids before arriving at all call times. Water is provided by the boosters during trips and performing events. Kids purchase meals on site a few hours later. No one starves! Be sure students remember to bring all accessories to their uniforms, band shoes and black socks, with clothing to change into after performing; white band polos & jeans for those who have them. Event tickets at the gates are about $10 - $12 for adults, less for children. Programs are $7 to $10. Air-O-Gram messages which are announced before performances are $1- $2. Event DVDs are often sold for $25 – $50 but may not be duplicated for copyright reasons. Pick up times after events are estimated and vary depending on traffic, the times awards finish and other variables. Students may call from the bus, during meals, or after they perform but won't have phone access otherwise. Ride sharing and carpools are common, by individual arrangement. Get to know students and parents of those who live close to you. If you need transportation help, please speak up! No student is ever left stranded. General: Share these memorable experiences with your student and enjoy! Mr. Henthorn has directed these music programs for 15 years. Tried and true systems are in place. Upper classmen and returning parents are also resources for general and routine questions. Most of all, have fun! |
