                                  EVENT TIPS FOR FAMILIES                                      3/31/08
Away Band Events:  Send $7-8 with your student for meals.  Water is provided by
the boosters. Arrive 30-45 min before step-off times to allow for parking & seating.
Step off times are precise!

Competitions:   Bring the family and friends for an enjoyable day of musical fanfare
with concession stands for food . They can have lines so a snack can come in handy.
Plan a flexible Saturday and evening since departure and return times vary greatly.
They will be posted when announced to Mr. Henthorn a few days before the event.
If award ceremonies are reasonably soon after the Sailor performance, they stay and
enjoy the other bands. Students are closely supervised and stay in a group with the
faculty, coaches and parent chaperones at all times.

Be sure your student has a solid meal and drinks fluids before arriving at all call
times. Light snacks on the bus are provided by the boosters along with drinking water
throughout  the trip. Kids purchase meals on site a few hours later.  No one starves!

Be sure students remember band shoes and black socks. Send white band polos
& jeans to change into after performing.

Event tickets at the gates for $8/adult, less for children.
Event programs are $3 to $5.  DVDs are often sold for $25 – 35.

Pick up times after events are estimated and can vary depending on traffic, the time
awards finish and other variables. Students may call by cell  from the bus but will not
generally have cell phone access while at events. Occasionally they may check for
messages during their event meal time, but don't count on it!

Ride sharing and carpools are common and worked out by individual arrangement.
Get to know who lives close to you. If you need transportation help, speak up!  No
student  is ever left stranded.

General:  Share these memorable experiences with your student and enjoy!
Mr. Henthorn has directed these music programs for 15 years.  Tried and true
systems are in place. Upper classmen and the Band Board officers are also
resources for your student's routine questions.
